There is a lot of public money for the arts and the artist but do we reach the responsibility level of the artist in this way? Once there was ‘L’art pour l’art’, today we must be aware not to reach a situation ‘L’art pour l’artiste’. (In this context we bring a number of responsibles for art policy together)

Timing and briefing off the coming days.

Friday Day 2:
Investigating the relation/role of the artist/art in the economical society. Specific: Belgium

Visit to Charleroi a city in the south of Belgium with a strong industrial past. Today it is a city reinventing itself. The Palais des Beaux Arts and the Museum of Photography are important places for this new ‘live’.

Visit to and seminar at the museum of contemporary art Grand Hornu. Former industrial mining complex. Today a museum for contemporary art and design.

Dorian van der Brempt: Optionparalysis : We have so many choices that we can not choose anymore. During a few year he worked with the students of the Design Academy Eindhoven on this subject. How do we handle our wealth? Happiness seems to be related to the capacity of being satisfied with what one has. If the focus is set on what me missed then we become extremely unhappy.

Julie Vandenbroucke: Arteconomy. Cooperation between artists and factorys. How to combine this two? How does it work in practice?

Saterday Day 3:

She was also extremely active in the cultural sector. Artistic and social responsibility are her live achievement. We will spend a day in the seminar center on the location (80 kms from Brussels). Discussion, debate on art trough/for mental handicapped people. What is the role of art? What is the benefit? When is art outsider art?

The Arab World and the Islamic World demand more and more attention, concentration, focus. How can artist bring better understanding, more nuance in this difficult relation. One day seminar with Belgian and Dutch artists and operators from Islamic or Arabic origine.

What is the story of art and money? How was it before and can history teach us for the future. Has art a role to play since religion is becoming less important and ideologies have nearly disappeared. Can art and artists help to define happiness again?

Technology or not?
